Tourism North East is supportive of the Victorian Government’s public health restrictions in response to an increase in cases of COVID-19 and, consequently, more Melbourne postcodes locked down.

The effects on regional tourism from these measures as well as the closure of  the Victoria-NSW border from midnight Tuesday 7 July is yet to be gauged, however, TNE CEO Bess Nolan-Cook acknowledged today that anything limiting travel to the High Country would impact the visitor economy.

“The latest spike in COVID-19 cases demonstrates how important it is that we all do our part and follow the rules that are in place to keep us safe and well”, she said.

She reiterated the need for visitors to remain vigilant about social distancing and personal hygiene.

The possibility of further lockdowns also highlighted that now more than ever it was important for local communities to get behind regional tourism businesses and shop local.
