High Country businesses should be on the alert to emails from a Queensland-based company, Victoria Tourism, recently prosecuted and fined for sending unsolicited invoices to operators for tourism business listings on their site.

The company’s listings are completely unconnected to ATDW listings linked to Tourism Australia, Visit Victoria, Victoria’s High Country and Destination sites, but may at first glance appear to be from one of these official tourism platforms. Here’s an example:

The company was fined $50,000 for fraudulent activity under Queensland law and it is hoped this will put an end to the activities, however the company continues to trade. Read details of the prosecution here.
